what is negotiation ? explains Marwa Farhat to the ACLC members

ACLC members with Miss Marwa Farhat "YALA alumna

Today was a very special day, as we've been honored to have former YALA program alumni (Marwa) share her experience and explain Conflict management and Negotiation.. She was a little bit timid but her cute accent saved the situation and made our presense worthwhile. The presentation was long ,but we could still be intrigued as she spoke about Negotiation first and elaborated on how it could be handled in a civilized way between two parties, and how it could be productive if used wisely.

We got the idea that in politics an effective negotiation is crucial in making peace.
The second part was about Apartheid in South Africa, and she did a great job in explaining it.
We traveled back to the history of Apartheid and its effect in South Africa, and we came to know its horrible atrocities to black South Africans.

Then she introduced to us a very important figure : Nelson Mandela, and we were moved to tears hearing his suffering in the name of justice and his beliefs.
This valuable session has taught us the importance of accepting others for who they are and not for their history or race. We are very grateful for that.

US exchange programs alumni nurturing and inspiring future alumni

Aya Somai a YES exhcange program alumna talking to Ilyes Riahi an ACLC member
Take a stand,be prepared to take the responsibility, work hard, endure the journey of your dream and change your life.
December the 6th, it was the fourth session in American Corner Leadership Club When the bell rings we have no worries, only the excitement of meeting the unique and novel challenges of competition
Today was really special; we had the chance to meet three guests.  Actually it was them who opened the gateway to our understanding of the importance of motivation and hard work.
Eya Somai and Mondher Tounsi YES exchange programs alumni
There were two YES program alumna pupils Mondher Tounsi and Eya Somai who told us about their experiences in the exchange program and the hardships. They explained some facts about life in the U.S, high schools in a funny way .Then they shared with us their best moments, places and even what Mondher’s friends wrote for him. They gently answered all of our questions it was really great we enjoyed listening to their stories and we found it interesting because they inspired us to look for such opportunities.

Than we met Khalil Shefai Tunisian entrepreneur who has four companies while he is 23 years old he told us about his start from the bottom by sharing his expertise. He also gave us some real examples of corruption in Tunisian companies and he was very helpful in replying to all our questions and finally he gave us some advices in order to strengthen our desires and transform it into the energy of will which will lead us to fully achieve our goals and at the highest level whatever it is. We are grateful for their insightful and inspirational help and guidance throughout this club.
What we learnt today is so important that is; you do not have to search far and wide to find your potential, embrace what is already inside of you. The more we engage in doing whatever it is that brings us passion, the richer our life experience becomes. Also realizing and creating one’s own destiny is not only for the rich and famous it is a God-given right for all of us. Don’t waste precious times allow yourself to dream but realize that anything is possible and if you see that it is possible then you are halfway there.
Khali Chafai an entrepreneur  talking to our mentees
.
Sometimes you may find that you need to do something that is necessary for your own survival, but you are unable to motivate yourself. However, if you place yourself in an environment that reinforces the goal you are trying to achieve and surrounded by optimistic people you will often be successful and that’s what ACLC is. As an undergraduate student I had the amazing opportunity to be part of this club and to meet such nice and interesting people.
Ahlem  Nasraoui
Souha Werghi
Thank you again and again.
It is only the start ....

The Craziness unleashed

ACLC MEMBERS
Leave your timidity behind your back, wear your sport outfit, bring your snacks and refreshments and Sidi Bousaid is the direction. The session of November 30th 2014 was an outdoor more precisely in the park of Sidi Bousaid. It all started with a spectacular mindset. First we had to choose a nickname that reflects our personalities and dreams. The creativity was there as usual and each nickname had a story and what is the point of any untold story. “I am the Master Mind one member said” call me Geek” one other member said while some other members chose to keep their First names as they best suit them.
What came next is even funnier, more entertaining but most of all very useful  as we believe outdoor sessions are not just for fun. The mindset riddles aclc calls it. Listen carefully to every single word of the riddle, think cooperatively with your partner and go beyond your imagination that is our way and that is how we do things in aclc.
Inside the park, the craziness was literally unleashed and waiting for us along with the fun and the great lessons.we were all divided into groups of similar numbers to perform the Scavenger Hunt challenge. Each group had a list of the most unexpected missions no one could have speculated. It all required courage, public speaking and lot of imagination. One group had to give some “free of charges” aerobic dance class to strangers and perform “Mission impossible” in front of a store while another team had to help a server in his job washing dishes, another team however had to collect a bag full of trash and take a picture with a whole family and the list goes on full of unexpected missions and the aim was to master public speaking which we almost learned in fact and we have erased words like “shy, I can not...” from our dictionaries.
Great efforts have been made while we were trying to convince these strangers we have never seen before who are we and what are we trying to do, thoughts, plans even laughs and videos were shared in an unforgettable experience in which we were all winners and we have all learned the true meaning of public speaking in a real world experiences.
Explaining the tasks
After the competition was finished, no time for rest, we were all gathered in the feedback circle to share our retaliations and how were our experiences during the scavenger hunt challenge. It was a great opportunity to learn some useful tips and practice body language. In fact we were asked to express our opinions and feedback concerning the previous activity without saying any single word just using our body language and even the smallest details actually matter and here we would all like to thank all our club members one by one for their great effort indeed and especially Hiba who made an extraordinary effort to surpass her timidity  and successfully unleashed her inner potential “Now we can hear your voice Hiba”.
Hiba an ACLC member
Last but not least, a thick thread and a circle of trust were everything we needed to live an unforgettable moment. We were asked by our mentors to meditate for two minutes in order to go inside our deepest pain, our saddest memories and let them all out.
The circle was formed and the thread moved from one member to another. Each thread tells a story and each story was shared with lot of emotions and have found great listeners and very open minded family willing to support even with words. Some of us shared even their untold stories the ones hidden inside their deepest secrets and extremely important to mention  that one of us summoned an outstanding courage to tell us how she was sexually harassed but the relief she felt after talking about it and the support she found were beyond any description but the question is again raised “when are we going to stand all unite against this cruelty and crime” ?

Eventually, we left Sidi Bousaid with lots of nice memories and precious lessons no one could have learned in one day.

Hold your breath: we are on our way to be LEADERS!! (Written By Nabiha Ben Ghorbel

family spirit
November 22nd, it’s our 2nd session in the American corner leadership club. This 2 hours meeting was very exciting; we had too much fun and learned at the same time.
Feeling at ease, was the most important aspect witnessed during this session. Having been in touch through the club’s Facebook group, we found it easier this time to get along with each other. The session started with the welcoming of three new members, to  whom we introduced the club’s rules and what we did last session .After that, Ahlem  asked us to stand up and do some exercises; and not any kind of exercise of course; they were some simple steps though, related to our main goal: how to become a leader. Having released all the tension from our bodies, we were ready to answer Ahlem’s question: What is the first thing you do when you wake up? The answers were different and very impressing;  Some start their day with a smile, others check their e-mails and messages. One girl said that the first thing she does is opening the window, breathing some air and thanking God for this chance to live another new day. Isn't it great to hear such things!!

American Corner Leadership Club
Following this interesting answers, Ahlem introduced us to the different components of a society; in first place comes the government, then the Famous 1.5, followed by media , the civil society and last but not least grassroots. The most exciting activity in this session was the eggs game, for that we were divided into groups according to our answers of the Leadership Case Studies (nothing is done by chance in our club). Through these case studies we came out with a new conception to being a leader. Coming to our famous activity; its aims was to protect the egg when it’s dropped. For that, we were given 70$ and asked to buy certain items from the material offered, each item has a prize of course; which made it more complex for the groups. The atmosphere of the game was really incredible.
We had too much fun, especially with those small but impulsive details, like for instance hiding an amount of money or a joker, and “tadaah” everyone is trying to find it first, seeking for it in every corner .At last we had only  one winner; it was the Queen’s group that succeeded to protect their egg. This activity may seem weird for some people; but sure not for Leadership Club members. In fact, we realized that we've learned way too much only after speaking about what we did exactly in order to avoid failure. It is true that not all of us won, though, what is interesting, is that we saw failure as a step towards success and we already started thinking about what we missed this time in order to fix it in the upcoming activities.
The Egg team work competition
We learned also how to forget about our ego when we are working in a team. What was important is that we experienced, maybe for the first time for some, how to act cooperatively in a group.
After this great experience, it’s Wiem Boubakri’s turn to speak about her application as a US Thomas Jefferson Program Alumni and to give some tips for the members in order to succeed their applications too. She was of a great help for those who are still doubtful concerning some sections. With the intervention of Wiem our session was ended. In a word, the atmosphere this time was too good to be true.
Wiem Boubaker
Looking forward to seeing how this experience will lead us to, and I’m very optimistic after seeing how great this session was.

This is very exciting and I think it’s the start of a life changing experience!(First week)

Marwen Ben Ammar ,ACLC member

Saturday November 15th,Today was the opening session of the American Corner Leadership Club. It’s an ambitious initiative developed by Young Leaders Entrepreneurs in partnership with the American Corner Tunis to help young motivated people develop their skills and boost their careers.
At first, it may seem to be a gathering of young students from different backgrounds, enrolling in different schools and not having much in common. But it turns out that’s not true!
During this session, all participants were invited to share with the rest of the group the life changing experiences that they went through. It was overwhelming to hear their great stories. I couldn’t help but notice that, despite our differences, we all have one thing in mind: enthusiasm and commitment to be better individuals who can change their environment. This attitude is reflected in the code of conduct that we’ve established. In fact, invited to help set up this code, one participant shouted out Cooperation. Another said Participation and Engagement. Respect, Support, Commitment, Trust and Tolerance have also been mentioned.
ACLC graduation day ,American embassy Tunis 2014

We all have one more thing in common: the passion for English and the belief that mastering new languages will help us to succeed in this global environment. Therefore, we all agreed to only use English during the ACLC meetings. This will not only help us develop our English skills but will allow us to benefit from the guidance and support that Mr. Conor, the American Corner Coordinator at Amideast Tunis, has offered to provide us throughout this program.
During this first session, we’ve got the chance to meet Wiem Boubaker, a US Thomas Jefferson Program  alumni, who has also offered to help us throughout this program. She is definitely someone we all look up to. Despite some setbacks, she did fight for her dreams and worked hard to make herself and those who matter to her proud. That’s is really admirable!
As members of the American Corner Leadership Club, we’ve been fortunate enough to be part of this wonderful opportunity and we’re ready to follow in the steps of Wiem. We’re enthusiastic and determined to make the most of this program.

                                           So let the journey begin!

My name is Mohamed, I am 24 years old. I joined Young Leaders Entrepreneurs last year and I had my first trainer experience during ‘’ The countdown: Build Tunisia in 20 hours” and experience that enabled me to develop my training and communication skills. Last June I traveled, to Asia and spent 6 weeks delivering trainings on leadership and communication techniques in China, Japan and India. I was able to deliver successful trainings to my students thanks to my past experiences in AIESEC and especially in YLE.

My first training experience in YLE enabled me to develop myself and improve my skills in doing trainings. I am now looking forward to live another experience in YLE by taking part in new projects or events. I strongly recommend YLE for students who are looking for developing a professional experience while they are still students. YLE is an organization that offers its member the opportunity to learn and develop their skills while at the same time it gives them the chance to enjoy what they are doing.

Member of the month August 2014 :Marwa Dkhil

Tunis,01 August 2014,As young leaders Entrepreneurs we want to congratulate Marwa Dkhil for being selected as the member of the month .
Marwa ranked among the three best organizers during the Countdown second edition in Gafsa for her patience and great grasp of what leadership means.
She was stunning with her authentic beauty and kind spirit ,often reflected in her flexibility ,openness and determinence to make any project works out.
One Billion Rising
Marwa who is originally from Sousse which is a coastal region in Tunisia ,was admitted to the American corner leadership club among other 30 young leaders .Added to that ,her prfeciency in English language helped her deepen our partnership with foreign partners during different projects like the "One Billion Rising .

According to Marwa :Leadership is about setting direction and helping people do the right things. However, it can involve so much more than this!
In particular, leadership is a long-term process in which – in a very real and practical way – all actions have consequences, and "what goes around comes around."

As Young Leaders Entrepreneurs ,we are proud to have her and wish her all the best in her future plans and initiatives

Nidaa Ben Aouicha : Women empowerment is a priority not an option in the Arab world

Tunis,31 July 2014, Women have always been an integral part of all societies around the world.
Some communities have taken advantage of female dynamism and turn it into an engine to empower their societies. Today women proved to be extremely competent and professionally skilled to hold higher positions like presidents of greatly leading states notably Brazilian president Dilma Russeff, her country is having one the most important economies in the Western Hemisphere. Angela Merkel a powerful woman that conquered the world of politics as being the chancellor of Germany.

Arab societies will never improve if there was no support from men to women, people need to realize that men and women are
born in the same circumstances and in the same spot of this earth, there is no natural reason that grants a man the right to act superior and freely domineering, the problems lies in the norms set by patriarchal societies, doessuch norms gives women the RESPECT they deserve? Tunisia is a country that revolted against political dictatorship and it is seeking for establishing a modern democratic state, but how about other forms of social dictatorship that they still exist, If women still cannot walk peacefully in the street without being subject to either verbal or physical aggression, then a real deep change must take place in the core of some decayed rotten minds.

Being a female has never been a burden as it is considered so in many societies, women must not be looked at with an inferior eye, they are not a piece of meat that is made to satisfy anyone’s need , not a personal property or a commodity, it is lamentable to see women are treated as such in many third world countries where they are sometimes deprived of basic freedoms such as education, freedom of expression which includes the right to choose, to decide about their own destiny. In Saudi Arabia females cannot even drive a car for they are not considered equal persons. In fact, gender discrimination is widely tolerated in most of Middle Eastern and Gulf regions, it’s no logic that any male member of your family can decide for you or control your life just because he is a male which means for them genderly privileged. A woman must be judged for her competences; her skills and what she holds on her mind, for her output, her efficiency in what she does, thus, living under injustice based on gender segregation is absolutely inacceptable in the 21th century.

ONE BILLION RISING IN Tunisia
When tackling the situation of women particularly in the oriental societies, we have to shed the light on the issue of “the Honor Killing “ which is spread in Egypt , Jordan , Yemen , ect .. Thousands of young girls are being murdered every year for being suspected to have relationship with men, it has been investigated that after the death of the girl medical tests prove in many cases that the victim was still a virgin which means that she has been killed for no reason but because of some rigid laws of a society led by a complete dark backwardness. The most dangerous thing is that the murderer does not get the deserved punishment since he has an immunity accorded to him for committing a crime related to Honor! I strongly believe that such realities must change and women‘s rights should be further protected and defended.

The mass rapes that took place in Egypt lately is an evidence of how Egyptian women for instance are perceived in their societies, the extreme lack of respect to their presence in the streets of Cairo is a result of a culture based on under estimating and humiliating women, does they have to pay the price every time.

they step out of their traced lines? The worst to mention is that rape victims are voiceless; they are not allowed to express their pain as they have to be abided by the no complaining policy in order to avoid confrontation with a ruthless society. It is really sad to acknowledge that the number of women who are being persecuted, discriminated against, violated, weakened , is very high not only in the Arab region but in most of the world . Standing up for women’ right to be equally treated and to be recognized for their tiniest role in their communities is an urgent need so as to contribute to Women empowerment.

I think that a radical change must happen in order to erase all injustices against Females, for that to see the light talented, well educated young ladies must work progressively on promoting the situation of women, the change lies in the hands of the new generation who must take action. It is time to see a president,a Prime Minister Lady representing the Arab region without pre judging or underestimating her...

Yessin Mtiri, YLE's Youngest Leader.

Yessin Mtiri, a very loyal member of Young Leaders Entrepreneurs since the beginning of its time, has been with us in almost all our projects. He is responsible for our social media and press release, also the youngest of all of us as he is only 19 years of age.
A hard working boyscout as he was since young age, he knows the power of team work and the honor of a promise made in the name of brotherhood and solidarity.

Yessin started out as a participant in our American Corner Leadership Club. He was with us in the New Generation Initiative project, the One Billion Rising Campaign and both editions of The Countdown: Build Tunisia in 20 hours in Tunis and in Gafsa.

Yessin had his face painted on 14th February, the One Billion Rising day, for the scene to be acted down Lahbib Bourguiba Avenue! Always ready for anything!

That's also him working with his assigned team during The Countdown: Build Tunisia in 20 hours first edition.

This photo was taken upon YLE's participation in the USAID event Bridge to Democracy in Hammamét.

He has well established himself through his immaculate hard work, perseverance and unfaltering diligence. He is an activist who never misses a chance to say "Yes! I can and I will!" He had taken part in many civic society actions and activities, always learning and exploring the meaning of activism in our society and taking baby steps towards Social entrepreneurship and leadership.

YLE is proud to have him as a member, and more proud to see him go on his own journey abroad to learn more and grow more as an engaged student! Yessin was chosen as a finalist in the Thomas Jefferson etudent exchange program, along with two of our YLE members. YLE will definitely miss him for he will leave big shoes for someone else to fill! He will undoubtedly make us proud for no one is better than him at representing the spirit and nature of the YLE family.

This photo was taken 2 days ago with the United States Ambassador Mr Jacob Walles prior to his departure to the U.S.

In more ways than one, Yessin Mtiri has proven to be a promising Leader and a great friend.

FEW DAYS BEFORE ASMA KAOUECH OUR MEDIA REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCES HER LIFETIME ADVENTURE (Part2)

Asma Kaouech 21 years old and recently a  bachelor degree  graduate in Public law .
As a Media and Public relations  representative of Young Leaders Entrepreneurs ,she served  as a crafter of stories and  worked to continually maintain the positive image of her association , creating an “advertising” direction of sorts for it.Actually ,she promoted not only the main activities thanks to her great abilities of public speaking but our pretty peace advocate accentuated that leadership stands for :
sincerty,commitment ,and tolerance as well.

Asma joined YLE as an American Corner Leadership Club mentee, but she proved herself as a leader and earned not only her position as a board member .But,she was and still an exemple of how hard work can make you achieve your dreams .
"It’s time for women to dive-in, head-first and heart-strong. They must actively deploy their unique ability to see with wide-angle vision and sow opportunities with a passionate pursuit"quotes Asma after she gained momentum when she was selected among cultural ambassadors who will represent Tunisia in The Middle East Partnership Initiative.
On June 23th ,Asma will be diving in the American experience and will represent not only her way of perceiving things as a prominent leader and Future President as she mentioned in her interview ,hopefully, but Young Leaders Entrepreneurs ambassador as well .

Good luck Asma Kaouech  and make us proud as usual .

Closing Ceremony of the American Corner Leadership Club.

The American Corner Leadership Club gathered us on 30/05/2014 in the American Embassy in Tunis  to celebrate the end of the first chapter of this one year program that  allowed 20 participants to be ACLC alumni through improving their skills and unleashing their thoughts by taking part in different projects and trainings.

This club was launched in October 2013 as a first step toward initiating a young Tunisian network of entrepreneurial leaders to build a promising future beyond beliefs and borders.
As leaders of our community, we were gathered under the roof of democracy to strengthen ties and partnerships which led to a quick implementation through organizing several events such as the Global Entrepreneurial week.

The celebration started by giving our speeches and recommendations as alumni to the other members in order to maximize their chances to get accepted in exchange programs offered by the embassy.
With the presence of  Mr. Sami Saied, Mrs. Kate, Mrs. Rachel, Mrs. Refka Nsiri and Mrs Najla Abbes , we enjoyed exchanging experiences and funny memories of our previous projects. We carelessly danced on the rhythms of "Break the chain",  then Mr. Stevens Christian joined us to show support and congratulate us of the consecutive success stories we are achieving.

Everyone was impressed by our rich differences that gathered us all, for one single reason. We all were eager to learn and to be the change that we want to see in this country. We all were there, to prove our prominent potentials and how creative we contributed to this society. And we  succeed thanks to our efforts and persistence.
And like we always say, this is not the end yet .
As we are going to write the second chapter of the ACLC book, don't hesitate to fill the application form that will soon be released on the Facebook page

Once an ACLCer, always an ACLCer.

THE COUNTDOWN :BUILD TUNISIA IN 20 HOURS (A NEW VISION FOR A BETTER TUNISIA)

28 December 2013 ,Hotel Elmechtel,Simply put, it is the first opportunity that engaged the most talented and gifted young people to the future of Tunisia. It is the initiative that challenged the general norms of the country and introduced the youth’s power and enthusiasm to the public and professionals. In no better timing, this startup considered the most controversial issue nationwide and proved that youth does not only have a say about it, but it can also change it. This opportunity was given to those who believed in their potentials and wanted to invest them into effective plans of actions for the benefit of their country.
The first edition of this startup launched in Tunisia marked a milestone in the history of empowering youth. Hosted by Young Leaders Entrepreneurs and a team of organizers mentors and coaches, a group of 100 participants aged 17-21 lived an experience out of this world. These participants embarked on a short yet stressful journey in the field of entrepreneurship.  It was a test to their originality, innovation and ability to work hard in groups of strangers under a stressful circumstance: the 20 hours!
Divided into groups of ten, the participants learned briefly about leadership skills, projects management and other related crucial factors when it comes to launching a project. Indeed, they had to come up with the most original and practical project that would serve the next national elections. During the 20 hours, every group needed to unite efforts and join skills to introduce an accurate overview and a detailed plan of action. The purposes of this project were mainly to engage more youth in the voting process, incorporate maximum use of IT and essentially guarantee efficacy and utility. A jury of experts would evaluate these projects and award the best out of the ten with valuable presents, but most importantly, a sponsorship chance.
In this regard, Socrates, the winning team conquered the floor and gained the trust of the sponsoring representatives thanks to its project:
Kyane Kassiri  as a mentor,Oumayma Yaakoubi,Ala Yaakoub,Achraf Hamraoui,Anas chatti,Chayma Kortli,Seifeddine mahjoubi,Aymen Selmi,Seif wefi ,and Rebh Shaima as a one solid team came up with a crystal-clear idea. They thought about using football as a tool of awareness instead of being a culminator of violence.
Thir project was basically about  launching an association named “TUNELECT( (short for ” Tunisia Election “).They will arrange workshops adressed to a number of their regional office members to spread the word of citizenship and democracy.
Thanks to the creation of interactive websites,audio-conferences ,Smartphone applications :their representatives and followers  in romote areas will be updated .Furthermore,They will organize some sports activities and tournaments , where football stars are present  ,to attract youth .Such activities and even singing contests along with a great campaign “WHY”(3LECH) supported by media and scoiety stakeholders are important and innovative in motivating Tunisian youth to vote.
One project was at stake, but dozens of ideas and plans floated among these participants. The Count Down allowed these talented individuals to voice out the best of their ideas and leave the jury and the guests at awe. It was a triumph for Tunisia altogether and it was high time this sort of power meets with the professionals for guidance and support. Moreover, these participants showed complete readiness and preparation to start working on their projects concretely, with all the tools they’ve got. Accordingly, the media (TVs, local radios…) and the concerned people (political parties, political studies experts…) demonstrated absolute attentiveness and seriousness and considered this initiative to be a leading first-step toward a more democratic and stable status quo.

These participants surely benefited from the colorful atmosphere that this opportunity provided; making new friends, competition, attention, dancing, fatigue, determination, disputes, creation and lots of other layers marking this startup as incredible. These same participants went home confident and proud for what they accomplished in only 20 hours. Can you imagine what they are capable of achieving in 20 years? I know my country is doing more than imagination; it’s eagerly waiting for this day.
